Cerebrovascular diseases
are the main cause of death in Portugal and contribute to
permanent disability with important social consequences.
The ultrasound study of both the cervical and cephalic circulation
as well as parenchymal neuroimaging have steadily grown in recent
years, constituting accurate and precious diagnostic tools in
diagnosing and monitoring these patients.

Gouveia was one of the researchers distinguished as one of
the best oral presentations at the 18th Meeting of the European
Society of Neurosonology and Cerebral Hemodynamics held in
Porto, with the work “Recurrence of cerebrovascular events in
patients with intracranial atherosclerotic disease”. The research
took place at the Neurossonology laboratory of
Centro Hospitalar e Universitário de Coimbra.
